Keep on Glitching, Keep on Hopping

Glitch-hop, one of the most exciting electronic genres out there. It’s something you can totes chill to (Baths), and something you can ‘go all out and pump your fist’ to (the Glitch Mob). Diversity is the key here (unlike glo-fi/chillwave), but because of that, there is some utter shite to be found.
Thankfully, some musical kings stood up and brought us the Low End Theory podcast. They have some pretty amazing stuff going on (click on the goddamn glitch mob link!), everytime I listen to it I feel like some great party at a friend’s house (lots of ganja, lots of alcoholic beverages).
But that’s not the only side to Glitch-Hop, there are some classic names already (Hudson Mohawke, Flying Lotus) and they are beginning to get to the masses. Not a bad thing, you can finally take your ‘normal friends’ to a gig. First signs of this were at Hudson Mohawke’s gig at Motel Mozaique, which pretty much consisted of partypeeps and alts dancing ’till they were sweating like a marathon runner. Now some of you ‘effing hipsters’ are probably mad at me for liking the commercialization of GlitchHop, but the thing is, things like LET are always gonna stay alt, Flying Lotus is really different live (much more dancable, more cliché glitch-hop) and none of the ‘msntrm bros’ are gonna buy his album anyway.

The Arcade Fires, Vevo, and livestreams

I died today, I really did. While musically speaking, this wasn’t that bad at all, but there was missing some feeling. The audience sucked, and the most important part of it was missing; the feeling.
Although Arcade Fire might’ve given all they could, the vibes trough the gig were lacking, dead, and reminded me of some mass concert where the msntrm goes to (this actually was a concert like that). Where is the feeling I get when I hear Funeral or Neon Bible? No no no, don’t get me wrong, the suburbs isn’t a bad album, pretty good even. But during this concert, during my listens of the album, I miss ‘something’. What that something is? I don’t know.
Especially when they started Neighborhood #3 (Power Out), what where they playing and why where they playing that? It sounded so lacking, so terrible. I don’t even know what to say anymore.
Then when they started to play Rebellion (Lies) it seemed okay, but then that idiot started hitting a drum like an idiot while jumping around. Is this to music I want to listen to when I act like an intellectual and read books?
I don’t hate Arcade Fire, but still this was not what I wanted to see. Vevo doing this made it even worse for me, which probably needs no explanation.
Tweets showing up like: ‘#AmexArcadeFire i dont even know this band and im having a hella good time’ and ‘#AmexArcadeFire The band and the director are absolutely badass tonight!’ didn’t help with it. While I truly respect that people learn of music that is good, somehow it ruined the vibes even more. I felt like I was standing there between middle-aged women with short, practical and spicy haircuts who where dancing with their arms to the rythm.
Is this the end of my love for Arcade Fire? Dunno, probably not, but I having feeling their next album will be horrible. It might be targeted at the middle aged women I described earlier.
Oh and, does the female singer really have to make annoying moves like that? Might actually be the worst part of the entire gig.

I ‘FFFOUND!’ some musics

So today I felt like traveling to unknown territories within my musical knowledge. Which got me some great/’gr8′ artists i’d really like to share.
Firstly, I’ll talk about my Chillwave discoveries (who said it was dead?).
I already talked about Beat Connection, but I’m going to say they are awesome again. Just for the sake of it.

Then there is Com Truise, which’s tunes are very nice. Prefer the bro to Washed Out. His EP is free to download on Last.fm, so grab it.
Very chill, relaxed tunes. Makes you just wanna sit down and listen, floating away in the times, the spaces.

After that I went to listen to Teen Daze, some of you might now them, but I didn’t. They feel like a combination of Boards of Canada and Toro Y Moi, or something comparable to that. And still, their sound is pretty original, even within the chillwave genre. These humans make me want to create my own chillwave. Mayb. i’ll start a buzzband and get featured on p4k, not sure yet. Their album was kind of a search, but you will find it somewhere (via dl’ing)

I also got some new names within the Witch House genre, all are very-much alike except for LAKE R▲DIO. They are kinda a combination of chillwave and witch house. Like the atmospheres they create. Not really sure about their Blair EP, but The Weather EP is pretty darned good, highly recommend this also.
Other names I found out about were: OoOoOO, //▲▲▲\\ and ▲, all very nice in their own way, but as of right now Witch House isn’t really that good. Might not be ‘getting it’, or it might be shite right now. Atleast I sense some potential in the genre, we need some names that will do the same Washed Out and Toro Y Moi did for chillwave (generic HRO reader response: they killed it).

Beat Connection

So I just want you to listen to this ‘band’: Beat Connection. It’s an electronic/chillwave duo who make some ‘mad chill’ music. “But Dion, Chillwave is dead!” Lies, listen to this, and then tell me Chillwave is dead again. Might be the best thing I’ve heard all year, was kinda looking forward for Panda Bro to save 2010, but he was late, Beat Connection already did that.
This is band has the standard chillwave sound, but they are heavily influenced by IDM artists (say, Caribou). This makes the music the pure definition of ‘chill’ and ‘rad’ at the same time (via sounding so fucking good). I can’t tell you guys more how much I love this, defi a thumbs up to this one.
BNM for their album?

Ipadzzzzzz

So this is my first blogpost ever (and probably the last one in a little while) on an iPad.
It’s a nice little device and it’s function seems pretty pointless at first, but I think I found it’s use.
This device is perfect for guys like me (via bloggers). It’s portability is very very nice.
Just if you have an idea for blogging: start blogging. No need for taking out your laptop, no need to wait for it booting. The battery is pretty nice (10 hours or so), the screen looks good. Me likes.
I used to really “h8 dem applez” (via them ruling like christians in the dark ages), and in still hate them, but this and the iPhone 4 look rather nice, they are improving their devices and the only thing I’m missing is last.fm scrobbling.

Shit peoples, I need an iPad. My life is not complete without it. Yes you can do more with an laptop, yes there is no goddamn scrobbling support (make it happen, apple), yes android Is more open. But who cares? The iPad does that what I want it to do, and at the end of the day it does those things even better.
Sorry people if I’m turning into an iBot, but then so fucking be it.
But nao my hands are hurting, so goodbyes.
Also; what are your thoughts on it?

Girl at the supermarket

Dear girl at the tobacco-corner,

I fucking hate you, I really do. Did you honestly think I was too young to buy a pack of cigarettes (JPS-red)?
Did you really think I was lying about my ID-card being taken by the woman at the town hall?
Did you really think I was ‘one of the lil’ kids trying to smoke nicotine for the first time’?

You are so fucking pathetic, thinking I was 14 or so. I just need my damn cigarettes, learn to live with that.

Is it because I am white?
Is it because I seem to be ‘mad chill’?

You and your blue AH-branded kerchief make me feel like a ‘free bird’. It makes me look like some intellectual, elitist kind of guy (via Harry Mülisch)

Why would you put me in this corner, with me blogging about you? Just to repeat: I AM NOT FOURTEEN. I am also not a tween boy trying to be cool by smoking fags.

You ruin the vibes over there at the supermarket, i just want to chill down, relax, all cool. You know the drill.

There is no point for not selling me my goddamn cigarettes
Might stop buying stuffs over there at AH, you guys just don’t seem ‘chill enough’ (via being total faggots)

FFFOUND!

Hey guys, sorry for not updating regularly but I’m just too fucking lazy.  Anyways, on to my post.

The routine bites hard, and the ambitions are low.. you know what to do, woman

FFFOUND! is a pictuarz blog, difference with the standard ones is that it pulls the images from the blogospheres and throws them together in one simple site. The look of the site remind me a bit of FAILblog hipsterrunoff/thealtreport. It’s easy to navigate and if you manage to get an invite you can ‘archive’ the nice ones. Best picture out there probably is this one:

Hi

Welcome to my blog. It’s normal to do an introduction type of thing, so, albeit for me being abnormal, here I go:

So I’m Dion Suurmond from Holland. I’m currently living in an quiet, idyllic village that bores the fuck out of me (srsly, there isn’t anything to do), but thankfully it’s not very far from the living world. I used to be a blogspot blogger but I never did anything with my blog and I hated the interface. WordPress is like heaven compared to it. If someone actually reads the darned thing, I might even post some stuff on here.

You probably now want to know my interests so you have an idea what the fuck I’m going to blog about. I like music that’s too obscure for you to understand, GDGTs (think; phones, laptops, etc.), movies (not an expert, so you’re gonna read about movies you have known for years/months). Probably also gonna blog some random rants, column style.

So that was my formal introduction, be sure to say hi back in the comment section. Oh, and thanks for visiting.
